Dog Stud service issues?
Well, 3 days before Thanksgiving, I had a 4 year old female akita brought to y home for a stud service. It was relatively a last second arrangement.
The man had apparently been trying to get ahold of me for about 5 days, but hadn't mangaged anyone picking up the phone when he called.
Well, his female was with us for 4 days, in which they had 2 successful ties.
The female was very pleasant to have in our home, and out of any ffemale that had ever been in y home other than our own, she was honestly the best behaved.
When her owner came and picked her up, he gave me all of her registration info and her pedigree, and went off back to his home.
A few days after leaving, I emailed him to make sure everything went well when he brought her back home. Days later, I had no responce.
After 2 weeks, and emailing multiple times with no answer, I delve into the information I had, and did everything in my power to get a old of the man.
As it turns out, the female brought to my home had had 3 previous litters in her 4 years of life, meaning she'd been bred far to young, or far too often.
Not only that, I lookied up her breeder, and even called him long distance on the phone to confirmm my findings.
She had been sold as a pup in 2005 with a spay contract, which was obviously not gone through with. The breeder told me the man had disappeared on him shortly after receiving the pup.
Well, by the power of google.com, I got a hold of the man's phone number, and called off of a friend's cell. He picked up the phone.
At this point, she'd have been a month along.
He told me he thought she was pregnant, and took her to the vet. The vet told him he couldn't tell for sure without an ultrasound (which the man had originally said he was going to get)
Well, the man tells me that he doesn't want to pay or an ultrasound right now, as he spent more on Christmas than he'd have liked. Of course, this upset me as he was supposed to get it done.
he gets insulted, and tells me he'll call me in a week and a half, and by then he should know for sure because he'll be able to feel them. He also tells me he isn't going to 'steal' a pup from me (as I was to get pick of litter as payment for my stud's services) He acte angry most of the phone call because I was not pleased with him for not keeping contact.
Well, now it's been nearly 2 weeks, and he has not called. I have tried calling him, and he lets his phone go to voice-mail, regardless of what number I call him from.
This female is due on the 29th of this month.
Now, I've contacted a breeder friend (my mentor) of mine that lives 2 hours away from me, and I've asked her to call, pretending to be interested in one of the future pups. I'm hoping that she can at least get a confirmation that the breeding was indeed successful.
At this point, I'm about ready to wait for the litter's due date, and then wait about 4 days after that, and then go to the man's home. I did mange to get his home address.
I figure that if I show up at his door, he will have to tell me what's going on.
I do have pictures of his female in my home. I also photo copied her pedigree, and even snapped a photo of them tied as proof to him that there was a successful breeding.
I'm wondering on how I should go about things at this point.
I've studded my male a few times now, and have not had a single problem in the past. My mentor has also not had a case such as this happen before, nor had her mentor when she called her.
What do you all suggest?
I was truly looking forward to this breeding and taking home the pic female from this litter. This man's female has some of the best akitas in the last 10 years right up front in her pedigree. Combined with my male and his older bloodlines, we were hoping for a larger female with a wonderful head piece and stance.
What to do?
The litter is going to be superb, and so this really upsets me.
